Yesterday September 2, 2023 I participated in a 1830s muster at Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts.
To supplement the meager armed forces, most early 19th-century farmers and craftsmen were required by law to serve in local militia units – the forerunner of today’s National Guard. Fall militia musters often saw the various militia companies of several towns coming together for a regimental muster. These would have been grand spectacles with townspeople coming out to view visiting militia companies. There were both organized militia sporting their snappy uniforms and the unorganized militia dressed in their every day work clothes.

Thank you Alafoto. It is a fun event and the ladies prepare a period meal for lunchtime called nooning. The foods prepared are what would have been on the table back in that time period.

Just a personal opinion - these great shots would look even better in monochrome - maybe with Sepia toning. Thanks for sharing. Cheers JohnR
