All Stars seem to be outline circles with darker center? Due to processing?
Different from most Milky Way photos with star trails.

I’ll have to look at them more closely. Might have been from Sharpening? Increasing details? Thanks for noticing.

Stars are slightly out of focus resulting in this display.

Here are some Milky Way photos from Aug 18. Critique welcome. Novice photographer. First attempts at Milky Way.

Sony a7iii Tamron 17-28mm. Tripod. Wired remote. Lightly edited in Luminar 4.

I don't know if these are any good or not. I can lighten to an almost daylight look, but that seems unnatural.

Prefer 1370 or 1371?

Thanks for looking.

Nice shots.

Considering your first attempt, you did good. I also noticed the focus was slightly off, which for me is what I struggle with. Once you master that, your Milky Way photos should be excellent.

Thanks for the encouragement! So hard to focus!
Where are you in Colorado? I am in tiny Salida. Can’t find other hobby photographers around here. Or they are even older than I am and kind of ‘over it.’ So I appreciate your feedback.

dbfalconer,
I am a native of Colorado and grew up in Glenwood Springs. We left the winter snow and ice a few years ago for the warm winters in Arizona. Currently in Casa Grande. We spent the last 7 years being vagabonds in our 5th wheel RV, but decided to take a break from that lifestyle.

I think I’d like to have been a vagabond for a while! My husband, not so much! We lived in Littleton 6 yrs, followed daughter and family to Salida last year. A big change! But we like it. Banana Belt winter with good skiing 20 minutes away!

I shoot the Milky Way as well. I use a Rokinon 14 mm lens with a Canon R7 body. I process using Photoshop Elements with a final touch with Topaz DeNoise. I prefer the Milky way a little brighter and increase the saturation to bring out a little more red.

If these are your first shots I'd say you did really well. Work on the editing to bring up the brightness and saturation.... You're well on your way to getting some great shots! At least with digital it doesn't cost anything except your time.
