Workflow While Traveling Suggestions?

I am looking for recommendations for an elegant solution to workflow while traveling. My old practice of taking photos (in raw), coming home and then processing via LR, etc. on my computer works, but wastes effort as follows: However, often, while traveling, I have time to edit some shots via importing pics onto my iPhone from my camera, editing in LR mobile or snapseed and then posting on social media or sharing immediately with our travel group/friends. I do not carry a laptop when traveling. Often, I find that the editing was sufficiently done to my tastes on my phone and I don't want to duplicate efforts re-editing pics imported onto my desktop computer when sufficient work was done on the move. I want to eventually have the edited photos on my desktop and in my existing catalog file system. I do not care about saving RAW images since the edited on-the-move photos will not be edited again. Any RAW images that do need saving and edited for artistic purposes will be done so when I get home.

I have a rough idea of a workflow using the Adobe Cloud and collections, but not quite sure. I am a LR/PS CC subscriber. So, if anyone has a recommendation or a site with a good workflow, please advise. So far, I have not found a comprehensive recommendation.

Thanks

The 'cloud' for the basic package is just 20GB storage. For the RAW shooter, this is pretty minimal, especially for long travel or heavy shooting.

Have you considered buying a very small, light computer just for traveling? I have done this for years. I prefer having a "clean" laptop with no info on it in case it is stolen or I lose it. I only use it for traveling and buy one with little memory. I also bring a backup SSD which I put my pics on while traveling. If I get one of those once in a lifetime shots/video, I process the RAW file and backup on the cloud so if I lose everything, I will still have that shot. Also can share with friends/family etc. I had a 11 inch MacBook air (they don't make these anymore) but there are many very small laptops that one can get (some people even do this on an iPad). But would require you to get a small computer type device and bring it.

Once you import the pictures into Lightroom on your phone you should be able to import them into your catalog at home. You should be able to set up an automatic download once you get home. Beware that you can link only one catalog to the web. All of your edits should carry over, that were made in LR on your phone.

For an extra $10.00 a month you can buy extra cloud storage from Adobe, as noted, raw takes up a lot of space. It is also a good back up for your pictures while traveling. Finally, once you are home and have backed up all of your pictures, you can delete the online pictures, freeing up space, or cancel the extra storage space. When you need it again, just add it to your account.

A) Remember that the traveling experience comes first

B) Be selective - One mistake is to think something has a lasting interest when in reality? Not so much.

C) If you have so much that is important...
 1) Purging
 2) Refrain from editing on a less than adequate computer
 3) Backup
 4) Redundancy backup (cloud)
 5) Sharing

D) Remember that the traveling experience is more important.

Thanks, but no. If I travel in the US, I have a computer, but if I go internationally, I do not want the extra weight. We travel a lot. Sometimes we may be in groups where I do not have a lot of time to sit and mess with pics. But, I may be traveling in between places (recently Morocco, then Egypt, next week Switzerland) In many cases, we are with friends or in groups. I have time on my phone while in transit but dont want to drag a computer with me and photo gear (I am leaving all but a small Sony RX100 home this time.)

I am specifically looking for the workflow involving LR mobile on a phone and later integration into my regular LR CC on my computer.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. Much appreciated

Happy travels.

Hip

Thank you for your reply. We travel a lot...at times too much. Headed to Switzerland next week and a few months later off to Greece and Albania (my wife gets bored and keeps planning stuff.) And I am a somewhat experienced LR user and a big proponent of purging pics, etc. I can take 1000 pics and only keep 50. Delete the rest. But, I am looking for a very specific workflow this time. I am looking for a seamless workflow from a phone, to the cloud to my LRCC on my desktop when I get home. If it exists!

So thanks for taking the time to reply. If you care to, take a look at hipcoyote.com...some travel pics there. Going back I need to delete some pics there as well that are not so good...and still have a few trips not yet finalized and posted.

All the best.

Hip

I may just up the cloud storage for month or two, then downsize again...I wont keep much on the Adobe Cloud once all is on desktop. I do use dropbox, Carbonite as cloud stuff, but Adobe is a bit pricey.

Excellent advice...I will mess around with some dummy pics doing that flow before I depart and report back!

Also, is that what the mobile version of LR calls "Albums" and that then gets synced with a collection? I only have one catalog, so am good there. The album thing kind of throws me.

You have given some good thoughts.
The small travel computer is also a good idea.
I have found that for social media, where most all looking can't tell processed or not, is to just take the camera photo you want to share and wifi it to the cell phone then put on social media immediately.
This save lots of effort in the evening etc. when you could be relaxing and contemplating the day's activities, talking with the significant other etc.
Hopefully you took the time to make a good composition and exposed photo to start with.
I am sure others have more excellent ideas as to what they do, but I like to travel and relax as that is the purpose and photos are secondary because I do not let the "Stress" of getting a shot interfere with the real purpose of a trip and that is to have fun, meet people and enjoy other cultures through imersion.

Doesn't work like that for Adobe.

My reading of the Terms of Service seems to be that I can do a monthly 1TB upgrade for 10 bucks a month. What am I missing?

Fee applies if you cancel after 14 days. If you cancel after 14 days, your service will continue until the end of that month’s billing period, and you will be charged an early termination fee. You'll pay more than $10 for a short-term cloud-size upgrade. Adobe will make sure it's cost prohibitive to try to game their system ....
