Not sure where to pos this, but I have not been able to ID this plant which is about 2 feet tall. Taken in central Illinois, and help with ID will be appreciated. The blooms are about 1.5 inches across.
looks like an evening primrose.
Thank you, I think you are correct.
plantnet.org also says Common evening primrose.
Thank you for checking. The photo in the book I was using is slightly different. You are correct.
Try a reverse image search. Whenever I question the identification of a flower, bird, animal, etc... I resort to using other peoples research. Once I believe I "think" I know what it is I start to use my favorite browser search engine and see if it matches credible sources. It almost always works.

This is a Common Evening-Primrose aka Evening-Primrose, German rampion, fever plant, evening star, Kin's cure-all, & Sundrop. Scientific name:
Oenothera biennisP.S. I have an app on my iPhone named "Picture This" that identifies every flower, tree, and/or week I have ever thrown at it.
Thank you for checking. I guess I am going to have to give in and get a smart phone.

You can go to plantnet.org on the internet on your computer.
Nice shot of Evening Primrose.
Where I live, Belleville, ON, Canada we have them growing in all the parks. Some of them, along the Waterfront Trail of the Bay of Quinte, grow up to six feet tall.
