What the heck are they smoking????
My ceiling fans lasted over 20 years, so I'll save a whopping $2 a year!!! Meanwhile, what will the cost of the fans go to? Grasping at straws are they???

Department of Energy wants ceiling fans to be more energy-efficient
My fans also don't "appear" to cost me all that much
Years ago, our old frig seemed ok until we got around to replacing it & found that the new ones really do cost less
Had the same experience with Pool Motors
SO----
What's wrong with making fans or for that matter any electrical appliance more energy-efficient

Not much of a news Headline. -- Could it be FOX that is in search of a few news straws

PS: Just went beyond FOX & looked it up & came away with this:
Ceiling fans meeting the proposed new standards sold over 30 years would reduce national electricity consumption by about 80 billion kilowatt-hours, an amount equal to the annual energy consumption of over 7 million U.S. households, and would net savings of $0.8 to $2.8 billion for purchasers.

Not surprised that it is on Fox. Times are tough there these day’s. Watching them is a waste of time which I have not a lot of. Just my thoughts

Look my comments really are not in favor of more efficient cealing fans -- Plus let's face it -- it's only a proposal -- And your most likely right -- probably not worth the effort
It's the hidden underlying meaning/message coming from dear ole FOX --
"Just another example of Government involvement with the Free enterprise system" --

Glad some folks are driving battery-powered to work -- I for one will only buy one if I have to -- Actually looking forward to a Fulecell-powered with hopeful Gov. rebates instead -- With what I now drive -- Glad I can only buy Unleaded Gas plus all the smog control -- Glad the car is a hell of a lot safer as a result of Gov. Crash Tests -- Air Bags - Crumple Zones - safer brakes - padded everything within the auto -- Not to mention the water I drink & the food I eat all looked at (not always correctly) by the Gov -- Also glad this Government actually knows the planet is warming due to human activity

I could keep on ranting but it was time shut-up & stop

Well, I suppose he's gotta look like he's doing something for the environment.....

The other things you mentioned have a bit more impact than ceiling fans.

How about them gas stoves/ovens?

I had this projection TV. Like a movie theatre! My new 65" TCL uses less in a year than the oldie did in a month.
My old fridg needed a drip pan fan- that needed tape. The new fridg uses half the juice.
When my old stove needed new elements I bought a refurbed gas one. Bill dropped @ 25%.
Put in a switched power/surge protector I turn off TV/Modem/DVR/Router etc at bedtime. Another 25% gone.
Edison drops off a pallet of LEDs once a year to Daiso.I replaced 75watt bulbs with 14watt LEDs.
Occasional blackouts? Home Depot has solar powered motion detector outside lights. I have two in my living room.
evolution happens.

50 years ago in Los Angeles? it was like smoking over a pack a day.
Working IT in the office? Watched the air turn yellow, then brown. Everyday.
We had more "smog days" in CA than "snow days" in PA.
Remember those black grease strips down the middle of the streets?
How about smokey exhausts, loud backfires and wanky tune-up shops?
Hey Faux News! "Good ol days"?

I also remember we moved to LA from NJ in 1954 --
All those Auto State & Fed Regs did a real number on the eye-tearing brown/yellow --
Unfortunately, not with CO2 -- I forgot all about Seat Belts another Gov Mandate

I remember getting chest aches in the 50s in Altadena walking home from school on bad days. Back yard incinerators were still allowed. Even in the late 70s, south on I5 when you should be able the see the LA basin but wouldn't know a city was there for the pollution.
