I have forgotten the name of these things but that did not stop me from photographing it. This only the 2nd time seeing one in years. Can you help me out. As you can see it does have a HUGE tongue, maybe 2-3 feet long. The name just came to me. Is this a Hummingbird Moth?

"Humming Bird Moth"

Over100 different species in North America and the largest has about a 3" body.

"The well-developed proboscis of hummingbird moths is an extendable, beaklike hollow tube or tongue that may be several inches in length and often as long as or longer than the moth’s body. When not in use the proboscis is coiled against the underside of the head."

Another site stated that some species theProboscis is about twice the body length, but not 2-3 feet (typo, Yes?)

Thank you Robert for your comment and link.

Just as I pulled up your post I had just before typed in Hummingbird Moth. I had also put emojis after my comment of a 2-3 foot tongue. No, not a typo, a JOKE, or supposed to be something humorous.

White-lined sphinx, in particular. Amazing moths, as you can see.

Thank you Mark, ONCE AGAIN. I am surprised you don't send me a PM saying not to bother you anymore.

Yes these things are amazing. I have seen two now but the first one was here and gone before I could get the camera up. This one flew/flitted around all over the place so getting him to stay in the viewfinder was a chore. Also his wings flapping were somewhat of an intimating factor. I am hoping for round 3 where I can get a tack sharp photo of him along with the wing blur.
