Buying lenses in Singapore

I have a Nikon 5100. We will be in Singapore & Hong Kong in February. I am looking to buy one of the new Tamaron 18-270 lenses. Is there any advantage in price to buy in either city?
Does anyone know where or which company/store to buy from there?

Yes there can be advantages and some savings. But buyer beware.

Bottomline, it is fun to shop. Things that are less expensive and less sophisticated can be much cheaper and many are not available in the USA or UK.

But I would not buy a DSLR body or high performance lens overseas unless I had to and I was sure about the place I was buying it.

The old adage holds true - if it is so inexpensive that you have to buy it, then you are probably missing something.

Just a thought - grey market from reputable seller out of Hong Kong will probably get you the same price and possibly better warranty coverage and you can have it next week.
I have used Digital Rev and T Dimension for 2 cameras and about 5 lenses and had no problems.

The competition in the US retail market is so strong that prices are usually much higher overseas (even in the country the object is made, e.g. Japan or China). Although buying a single lens should be no cause for customs charges.

In addition to the concerns raised earlier, better to buy before your trip, and learn to use and enjoy the lens before traveling.

A couple of years ago we bought camera equipment in Singapore for a granddaughter. It did not work long. We learned that camera equipment bought overseas is not covered by a US warranty. We had to contact the seller (Who did not respond). Fortunately we used American Express and got our money back. I would never buy camera equipment abroad again.

By the way, the camera was cheaper here.

Your experience say it all. Thanks for sharing it.
