This almost seems like it should be common sense, but I need a clear, correct answer. Whenever I submit a photo to this site, I always send it in at full resolution, filling the whole page as a result. I would rather the image be displayed in a smaller size but still with high resolution. Would I just change the image size to something smaller and leave the resolution high, and if so what do others reduce the size to? Thanks.
The linked post below explains how and why to resize to 2048-pixels wide. Sending the full / original pixel resolution is a waste, especially since no one has a screen wide enough to see an image larger than 3000 ish pixels wide.
When you say 'filling the page', note the UHH pages resize the all 'larger' images down to about 1200 px wide. Alas, when UHH made this change from an earlier 800px wide, there were no published technical details to reference and confirm the exact details. Again, when you send a larger image, the site still creates a thumbnail of the image to this smaller wide size.
