I use my DSLR 24-120 f4 a lot so I looked this up: DSLR 24-120 25oz. Z24-120 f4 is 22 oz.

Nikon does not list a weight for the FTZII adaptor. I use the FTZI and it adds more bulk than weight, especially on my Zfc.

I am selling my Nikon D500 that has two full frame zoom lenses to get a Zfc or Z50 with zoom lens. The D500 has served me well, and the quality of images has been terrific, but I want lighter and smaller for travel. For cruise ships and other travel it has become too much trouble to lug around at my advancing age. Landscape and dinner parites are my major uses. My question is ..... am I compromising quality ? Are there other compact mirrorless bodies that I should consider ? Comments welcome. Thanks.

I prefer Nikon’s APS-C lines. Smaller, lighter (400-700g), produce excellent images, can use dx and ff lenses and are available used and some new. I use a d3400 for travel, vacations, fairs, amusement parks etc. 24mp sensor and less than 400g. Also use a d90 and d80 at 600g. with excellent results. Most are available for under $200 excellent or brand new.

As previously stated, weight is more a function of the lens choice. Here is a list of Nikon camera body weights in oz.:
Zfc 14 D5600 15
Z5 21 D5300 17
Z6 22 Df 25
Z7 22 D500 30
Z8 32 D850 32
Z9 47 D6 45
The absence of a mirror has less impact. Without spending more time, I believe the MILC lenses are lighter and often a little better than their DSLR counterparts.
Depending upon your goals and budget, only you can decide if changing over to MILC is worth the money and time.

Really some bad comparisons there. The full frame Z5 against the crop D5300? It should compare to the D750 at 30 oz. The Zfc to the D7500 at 26 oz and the Z6 & Z7 to the D780, 30 oz.

Sorry that you missed the point which was just a sample listing, not a comparison.

I love when those that have no clue about current technology make claims about the superiority of their old tech. The Z50 equals or beats the D500 in every category except focus tracking action. And even with that it’s closer than people think. Most just haven’t learned the ins and outs of mirrorless focus modes.

Maybe so, but I know my cameras and how to use them. They do what I need them to do when I do my part. I don't need nor want to line camera makers or sellers pockets any further than I already have!

Additional note. I bought my D500 because the controls are very similar to the D850 I already owned.

I've looked at the Z50. Using it falls far short of using a D500. As I noted earlier, it is in no way a comparable camera to the D500. There is not one yet. Maybe some day, but not now, and it would actually be a little bit surprising. Based on what Nikon has said in the past, I just don't look for them to introduce a true high-end crop sensor camera unless they alter their stated road map. They are focused on higher-end full frame and just enough low-end to bring in some new customers. But they have stated multiple times that they will not be making beginner cameras, either.

A sample listing is meaningless.

That would be fine if what you said was that they do what you need, although useless information and not really pertinent. But what you implied is that your cameras are the end-all-be-all and there’s nothing better.

Thanks Dave for the data on the weights of various cameras and lenses. I had thought of looking up these numbers but never bothered since the OP never told us what lens(es) they used and/or bought. But his numbers never made sense (shedding 10 pounds, 1/15 the weight, etc). Looks like one can shed some weight going mirrorless (maybe a pound) though in my case, switching from the D500 to the Z8 and 500mm PF to the 400mm f/4.5, my gear stayed about the same. Thankfully the OP found a camera to buy and hopefully will be happy.

You might want to consider a smart phone. Top of the line phones such as the Galaxy s23 Ultra, iPhone 14 or Amazon Pixel 7 can easily handle your type of shooting.

You might have taken that from my post, but that's not what I said, or implied. I DID imply that I'm not interested in mirrorless, and to make sure there are no more misunderstandings, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN MIRRORLESS CAMERAS!! If I didn't have a considerable amount of treasure invested in DSLR's, it might be a different story. But as I said in my just previous post, I'm not interested in and will not line the pockets of camera makers or sellers when the cameras that I have already paid dearly for, will do the job very well. Despite all the hype bandied about both here on the UHH and everywhere else where one can catch even the faintest whiff of photography speak!
There!! I've said it!! Let the haranguing begin!!
