Wifi question

I use my wifi setup to connect internet for email and other web sites. I am using several dated tablets, about 4 or more years old. My Wifi system is an ORBI7 (netgear) which is about same age. My tablets work fine on reception but my new Samsung flip phone, purchased a year ago , cannot connect to the internet. Error message says "server not available". But when I am in public buildings the phone has excellent internet reception. Could it be my Wi-Fi model is too dated to function with my smartphone? I have purchased a new ORBI model, but can't locate similar model # on box. Both old and new models have the router and 2 satellites. I am hesitant to install new model until I know the problem is with the old unit. Geez, the new unit price is double what the older one costs. Any thoughts on my problem will be appreciated.

Hello
Well, the first question I would ask.
1. Has your new Samsung Flip Phone, ever worked on your Wifi(yes or no)
2. On your wifi setup do you have both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz (am guessing your phone should connect on the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz)
3. Prior to your new phone did your other cellphone connect to your wifi

You need 4 things for your phone to connect to your network (in addition to having the WiFi turned on and not in airplane mode):
1) it needs to be on the same band as the router (2.4GHz or 5GHz)
2) it needs to “see” the network,
3) it needs to have compatible encryption (such as WPA2/3),
4) and it needs the correct password (your network is password protected, isn’t it?).

First, can you “see” your network on the phone? If so and you try to connect, does it request a password and allow you to choose an encryption type (such as WPA2)? If you can’t, turn off the WiFi on the phone and then turn it back on (and make sure airplane mode is turned off). Is it scanning for available networks and is your network shown? If not, report back and we can get into checking/changing the router settings.

Trix,
I must have had my head in the sand to request help. My apologies, I never used my cell phone at home and I don't intend on using the smartphone at home either. Use will be for emergencies or needed communications while in car and entertainment while waiting for Dr's appointments, etc. I will delay installing new wifi as long as my tablets and desktop access the internet normally.
Regards

Understand, but glad to help you troubleshoot if you like.

Cheers
