There are so many quotations attributed to famous people, but they never said them. They get passed along as common knowledge.

According to many scholars, Shakespeare didn't really exist as an author, and the works attributed to him were written by someone else. Given the comic panel posted how ironic is that?

I think it was Abe Lincoln who said that.

Perhaps all of you are aware that Humphrey Bogart's character, Rick, in the movie Casablanca never NEVER says "Play it again, Sam." He does say "You played it for her, now play it for me. Play it Sam."

Right! Lots of actual quotations get changed to something more convenient.

National Lampoon's Animal House is my favorite quotable movie. There are so many good lines, I wouldn't know where to start...

Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles is another.

I thought that the idea of Bacon really having written shakspeare was put to rest years ago, but what do I know.

I have quote from a tablet of quotes that reads "Go often to the house of your friend, for weeds choke the unused path" Shakespeare. Only problem is that Bard never wrote these words. From what I have been able to ascertain, they're from Emerson. So you're right, things do get misattributed.
