I shot a video with my Sony A77mk2 in format AVCHD.I have windows 10 and Lightroom Classic. My stills load, but the video clip does not. How do I get my laptop & Lightroom to recognize the format? Anyone know about this proble? Thanks.

I'm constantly mixing both video and stills in my cameras. Classic will recognize all of the formats I've ever shot. Your issue may be that, like most cameras, the clips and stills are put in different folders by your camera on the card.

Sometimes when I do an end of shoot file copy from card to camera, Classic 'defaults' to the stills folder. To fix it I select the entire card and check the box to look in subfolders. Then it finds both.

If that doesn't make sense, I can put some files on a card, launch Import and give you a screen shot.

Sony puts video in a folder that is different from the folder that stills go into.

My Sony a7R5 has the video files here: PRIVATE > M4ROOT > CLIP

Timely. I used to make minor video edits in Lightroom but hadn't done it for a few years. Last week I tried to import a video just to trim a tad off the end and got an error from Lightroom telling me it doesn't support video editing.

I ended up using a free online editor. And the version of Lightroom was Classic.

I'll try that, Thanks. A screen shot would help as well.

Only Lightroom online, on your phone, supports limited video editing to my knowledge. You can view videos in LRC.

Lightroom Classic will import and manage video files just like photo files. There is some minimal light and color correction in the Library module. The Develop module can't be used for video. For output, use the Slideshow module where you can use videos, stills or a combination. Just like a stills slide show, titles and music can be added.

There is an interesting work around technique for corrective edits. Capture a JPEG still and use the Develop module for improvements. Then, back in the library, sync the still edits to the video it came from.

Anthony Morganti will show you how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EebzoQKqBZ8

This sounds familiar. I believe this is what I did previously to make minor edits. So it's not that Lightroom changed, but that my memory failed me.

I don't do a lot of video but occasionally I give it a try. 'Way back when I was first using LR I found that it would display the video but could not edit them. So I found that my Windows machine could use Movie Maker, a free Windows accessory to do the editing. It can split a video and combine other videos and save to a new format. Haven't found a way to crop.

Have not really tried to find a Mac app to do similar things yet.

Click IMPORT then in the SELECT SOURCE dialogue navigate to the correct folder on the SD card. There are a couple of Youtube videos that will help you.
