Sony 200-600 lens loose on camera mount

Has anyone had a problem with the Sony 200-600 being loose on the camera mount? Mine has loosened - and it is on either body I use. So definitely the problem is with the lens.

I notice focus not as quick has it had been. It may just be me.

I tried tightening the screws on the lens, which someone had suggested. That was not the problem.

Any suggestions? Otherwise, will send it in for service.

Outside of some physical damage is it a heavily used lens with some wear?
Outside of that no clue.
Hope you get it resolved.

I do use it constantly. But I don't hang it from the camera. It is always held. Too much weight to pull on a camera mount.

Pack the locking pins with some steel wool and see if that tightens things up - -

The lens is super, I have had one since they were first released back in summer 2019, and I have used it to make great shots in many countries. I have used it with my A9, A7RIV, A1, A7SIII.

For the OP, I would send it back to Sony repair, and they will thoroughly check it over, including its focus. BTW what cameras are you using it on ? I ask because you should also check the screws holding the lens mounting flange of each camera, they also could be a bit loose from heavy use, and a fairly substantial lens like the 200-600mm might have been a contributing issue.

FYI, I have never had any such issue in four years of use of this 200-600mm lens with multiple bodies.

But it all could be the lens. Best to have the right folks check it out. If you live in the USA, then Sony's main authorized repair facility is Precision Camera, in Enfield, Conn. Give them a call and see what they say.

Just a few shots I have made in the wild in different countries with that 200-600mm lens.

Cheers and best to you.

I'm aware that you have mentioned that you have checked the screw tightness but what you do not mention is what "looseness" you are referring to. Are you referring to 'face to face' or 'radial' (excess rotational movement) looseness?

If the lens to body fit has previously been good, wear is most likely, physical damage would most likely make things tighter.

Great images. And Thank you!!!
I generally shoot with Sony A1. But use it on the 9ii and A7riii.
It does it with all of the bodies. And the 7riii doesn't get much use with it.

CJW, have you ck’d the screws that hold the lens foot to the lens? I’ve had an issue with these a couple times. (I’m pretty gentle with my gear, at least most of the time)

Yes I did check those. Nice and tight. I think we are all gentle, but accidents do happen. :)
