A few days ago I commented on seeing many of these Cabbage White Butterflies but that none of them would hold still for even a few seconds to click the shutter.

Today was different. At 9:30 I was outside by the chain link fence separating my yard from my neighbor's yard. My side has nothing growing except weeds while his yard has a number of weed like tall flowering plants. Every day I am at those plants at least twice looking for different insects. As I walked up to the fence I saw a Cabbage White Butterfly land close to me. Not only did he land he sat there for a minute or so allowing me to take a few photos.

Later today I went back out again and saw yet another Cabbage White Butterfly flying around. This one also stopped numerous times allowing me to get some decent photos. I was also able to come up with other photos of other critters as well, I will be presenting later on. So far this is a great day.

Evil beasts... Dad would have a tub of water with a bit of detergent, and a light shining into it. The next morning the Cabbage White Butterfly population would be diminished. Shakespeare in a play said, "Alas poor butterfly I knew you well."

Thank you dpullum for your fine comments. I don't know if I would go with the tub of water and detergent these days but I am sure it worked well at the time to get rid of them. I also did not know the Shakespeare being from Shakespeare but had heard the comment before.

Thank you very much sippy. They are very hard to photograph and then on the same day a couple just seemed to slow down for me. The great God of Butterflies smiled down upon me.

Dennis, Your photos are beautifully done showing the small specking of dark spots. My wash tub comment was one of history before insecticides were so universal. The larva were a menace to the large home survival gardens of the WW2 era.

Those dark spots evolved to protect the White Butterfly. The industrial revolution in England layered everything with soot... the white butterfly/moth was easily seen by birds and devoured... the darker or spotted gray survived to reproduce the next generations; evolution in action.
