I saw this wasp, I think it is a wasp, in full view on a plant. Yes it would have made a lovely share photograph. But between me seeing him and getting the camera up and on him, it decided to move to another area about 10 feet away. When I finally got him in the viewfinder and was pressing the shutter button it decided to play the, Find me if you can game. He then flew to an area where he offered a perfect overhead shot but the chain link fence played a role here as you can see. These few photos are what I ended up with.
I know there is enough of him there for you all to make an educated guess but I am not sure exactly what it is. I am thinking something like, waisted wasp, something like that.

Nice try Dennis. I hate it when that happens Dennis. The only thing worse is when you get stung in the process
That happens to me a lot, Dennis. If it's not too hot out I'll stay the course but sometimes I give up.
I can just see you, Dennis. Running around in circles chasing a wasp with a camera stuck to your forehead! I wish I had been there with a camera to catch it! :-))
That would be one of the thread waisted wasps. This one is a caterpillar hunter.

Thanks Jack. I always appreciate your comments. Fortunately I have not been stung in a number of years. Never have looked forward to it much especially from wasps and hornets.

Thank you kpmac for your always positive comments. Of course I know I am not the only one to whom negative camera experiences come. It is only fair because quite often I get a photo I am darn proud of and happy to display here. Actually I like these photos. They did come out great and depicted exactly what I and the camera saw.

Thank you Chief. I didn't quite have the camera stuck to my forehead but close.
Recently I started using a different flash diffuser meant to be used with the flash on the camera, my Sony RX10IV. It is made by Angler, a PFSD-100 I bought from Amazon. I do like it a lot and it works well EXCEPT it tends to block my side vision. Normally when I see something tiny to photograph I can look for it in the viewfinder and still have my side vision with the other eye to locate it as well. This Angler diffuser prevents me from using both eyes so I need to put the camera down, locate the insect again and then try the viewfinder again. Hopefully just something to get used to.
