Thank you Jack for your comment. It LOOKED bigger than a hover fly but then again, what do I know? I just take the photos for my enjoyment and hopefully so others will enjoy them too. I really should have gotten into Bugology years ago.

Job well done. It's a fly that mimics a bee. Bees have two sets of wings on their thorax whereas flies only have two. Another indication is bees have mandibles and flies have sponging type mountparts.
