I acquired a Windows 8 Pro Upgrade from Best Buy on sale for $69.00. Before I open the package, I was wondering what others that have it thought of Win 8. Love it, like it, it's OK, hate it? I have 30 days to return it if not satisfied as long as its not opened.
I have a Dell Inspiron that is a few years old and originally came with Vista that I upgraded to Win 7. At the time it was one of their higher end computers with a Quad Core processor, 6 GB of RAM, 750 GB hard drive. I also have dual monitors with it. How will that work with Win 8?
I also have a Toshiba laptop that is about a year old but not one of their higher end machines. Came with Win 7 and has dual core AMD processor which I don't think is all that great.
I use the Dell for almost everything - surfing the web, video and photo processing, etc. The Toshiba is mainly used when I travel which isn't a whole lot. Also use it to check my UHH emails in the morning at the kitchen table since it has wireless connection to the internet.
So if it was up to you, which computer would you install the Win 8 on? Or stick with Win 7 and return the Win 8 to BB?
Any and all comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

You can buy it direct from Microsoft downloads for only $39.99. Add $14.99 if you want a disc mailed to you.

Thanks for your reply but I prefer to have the disk. I don't think I want to go to the trouble of returning it to save $15.00. If I return it I will stay with Win 7.
How do you like the program?

It works good. I put it on my laptop as well as my desktop with the same products key, both registered just fine and have been working for almost 2 weeks. I also got the $25 additional discount because I had bought my Windows 7 laptop in the 90 days prior to Windows 8 release, made the whole deal under $30 to upgrade both computers.

The only thought I have in my mind about Windows 8 is whether it needs to be a 'clean install' or if it will seamlessly intergate with my Windows 7 Ultimate, because there is no Windows 8 Ultimate out right now.

Much of Windows 8 Is for the newtouch screen machines, if you don't have a touch screen I think you'll not be happy. The interfacewithout the touch screen in with mouse and sometimes more then one action is required. BUT if you have a touch screen things will be much more inter active

According to the guy at BB you don't need a special monitor, any will work by touch. Don't know for sure. I have a 24 inch monitor and it is set on the other side of the desk. Didn't want to have to reach across all the time to use as touch screen. Besides I have always been against getting finger prints on the screen.

Win8 works with mouse. You have to hook up mouse and move cursor to lower left corner and stuff to activate the mouse option.

I think you will find that the BB rep. meant Windows 8 would work with either touch screen capacity or mouse/keyboard input. Not that any monitor will work as a touch screen device... because they won't.

Think the guy at BB was just setting the hook, you will need a special touch screen monitor. Personally am staying with 7, use 50' HDTV for monitor, will break any arms connected to hands that would try touch that screen

I just installed win9. It's fine. A little different. I have a new Dell Inspiration and I bought the win 8 upgrade. The upgrade cheap price is only for qualifying computers. Basically, those bought within the last several months since win 8 was announced and were purchased with win7.

I don't have a touch screen but it's real easy to go back to the desktop from the tile screen. The power off button is located under settings over on the right side of the screen which appears when you move your mouse over there.

I don't know how well it works with older programs but what I have works fine. If you like win7, I'd probably keep it. I have win 7 on my portable and won't change until I learn more about win 8. but so far ok.

Remember you don't need a touch screen, the mouse and keyboard works just as they always have.

After further study, I have decided I don't want to bother with Win 8 at this time.

Now that I've been using Win 8 for awhile, I am starting to notice differences.
I'm not changing my laptop to Win8 from Win 7. Win 7 has a compatibility mode that Win 8 doesn't have. I have a couple of older programs that will not run under win8 but with the compatibility (virtual machine) I can run the programs or use my XP machine which I'm not upgrading to.
To shut off Win 8 you have to go to settings, press the power off button and then shutdown.
I really like how fast Win 8 starts up but other than than, I don't see it as an improvement over Win 7. But I still like XP better than either of these.

After viewing the two video links that gunner posted it seems pretty obvious that Microsoft has designed Windows 8 with IPads and Android Phones in mind, just like they mentioned in the clip. Seems like they are trying to direct the industry as to where they want it. Sorry but I don't feel left out using 7 on the 3 computers here at the house. Admittedly 8 is cute, remids one of CSI Miami or Hawaii 5 0 which is fine. Of course I resisted moving away from Windows XP but the move wasn't that far, not like it would be moving to 8. ight one day put it on my lap top but at this point NOT my PC's.
