So close, yet so far..
As I mentioned, the salmon had not run yet when we first got there. The few fish that did attempt to jump the falls did not always make it only to try again. The bears watched many get so close, yet so far..
Since the fish were not plentiful and jumping a lot, I had to stand and hold the camera viewfinder to my eye and hope I was fast enough to start the shots in time to catch the fish jumping and just hope it was good and a bear could catch it, and hope I was focused in the right place.... My arms got tired. Then every time you would take a break and look elsewhere, a fish jumped and a bear got it, of course...!
I also think the salmon draw straws and send one of their buddies up to take a look and see if there are bears. Then he goes back down and says "don't do it, they are right there waiting!"

So close, I can almost taste it!

But no, this one disappears into the falls to go back down and tell his buddies how he barely escaped the jaws of death.

I think this salmon was going to bite the bear on the nose!

I think I can get this one! But alas he did not.

And this is how the two buddies looked most of the time, just waiting and hoping for a good jumper!

This was a distraction from the bears on the falls. I would have loved this if only the other cub had looked my way. But it was not to be.

Another puffin was kind enough to fly by!

Those were some lucky salmon this time.
Beth, that has to be a wonderful experience being there watching all that.
Another excellent set, Beth!
Outstanding. Including the last one. I rue the day you run out of these images!
