Or maybe Mother/Daughter or any combination there-of
As others have mentioned here, both parents take care of the larva. Kind of rare in the insect world but there are others that do that.
Forgot to mention, Bess Beetle and larva.
They tell me I have my daddy's eyes

Where's Thomas 902 when you need him. A little powder on my forehead would take care of the shine

Jaws... yep.
I believe your correct...Jaws. Maybe Sippy can work his magic and give us super macro of jaws of both adult and larva
Great finds and as well as a great job of documenting them in their natural habitat. 👍😍👍
Bess beetles are among my favorites to come across. The adults make a hissing sound when you listen to them closely. They play an important part in Nature's Cleanup Crew by helping dispose of woodland deadfall and enriching the soil in the process.

Thank you Sippy. With all the fallen trees on the back of my property they are certainly easy enough to find. I just need more practice getting better lighting on the face and editing. I would like to get more detail on the faces especially. The encouraging thing is I have seen improvement in my shots over the last couple of years
Very good! And I had quite forgotten that these take care of their young.

Thank you Mark. Someone on this site made me aware of that fact.
