OK I'm dreaming but is this a good outfit for sports photography? Is 2896.95 a good price?

I have no idea about the camera but the lens wouldn't cut it indoor gyms, you would need a 70-200mm F2.8. look at the nikon site for refurbished equipment!

I do not use Nikon, but your questions is about the lens. My thought is that the lens you mentioned is not fast enough. You should consider f2.8 or wider.

Just picked up a D600 and Sigma F2.8 70-200mm for the same price as the kit lens and body..... You will love this camera.......... I took a lot of indoor sportshall athletics on my old Nikon D5100 and sigma F5.6 170-500mm just increased the ISO and managed the WB for an extremely yellow sportshall, got some nice quality shots though with the old kit looking forward to trying out the better equipment next weekend though.

The 28-300mm lens may not work effectively for indoor sports. I have used a 80-200mm 2.8 for indoor sports with very good results. If you can get close to the action (sidelines or end of court), a 50mm 1.8 lens has worked very well.

Just some thoughts to consider.

I would want a lens with a f/2.8 at least. The other lens will probably be fine for outside sports photography. I would probably also consider the D800 or D800e to the D600. But if you are just starting out, remember photography is an expensive hobby. I have to get one piece at a time. But that gives me time to learn how to use everything before I get something new. Have fun!

Unless you're absolutely fixed on having a full frame D610 (since the 600 is discontinued), I'd really consider a D7100 with my favorite 17-55 2.8.

I rented a D7100 for HS football under the lights. With my 70-300 4.5/5.6, it was usable. With a 70-200 2.8, it was wonderful.

Hi,

I think You might find a better deal.

About four months back I picked up the Nikon D-600 a 24-70mm and 70-300mm lens at Costco for around $2 Grand.

I moved up from the Nikon D-5000.

I found I needed better lens...I have shot my grandson's football with the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 a good lens, heavy but worked well using 800 to 1600 iso on High School Football field, I am now shooting Grand boys basketball using a 50mm f1.8 lens and a tamron 17-50mm f2,8 lens....If you go to the Sport Forum and file thru I have posted some shots.

I like the D-600, have had no issues with spots as reported...One time I saw a speck when I checked, raised mirror used a Gotto Blower, re-checked no speck.

Hope this helps, Good Luck and I still like and use my D-5000 too.

Blessings,

tom
