Received my new Z8 August 3. Four days later I discovered that mine was part of the TSA for potential eyelet failure. Filled out form on their website same day and was placed in queue.

My initial thought was that since I never use those eyelets I didn't have any reason to send my Z8 in for fixing. But upon further reflection I realized that if the threaded pin holding the lug comes loose and falls out from vibration, then even though I don't use the lugs that pin could easily fall down inside the camera body anyways.

The thought of having a loose piece of metal lying around anywhere in the proximity of some printed circuit board gave me pause.

Received my shipping label from NY service center yesterday. Took camera to UPS this morning. Seems like Nikon is acting as quickly as possible to correct this issue.

And because the problem with the lug is because the the pin coming off so pulling on the lug it could be very strong but yet the pin can come off and the lug come out with not much force.

My Zed 8 is listed for the potential eyelet failure. My challenge is...I have two events happening in the few weeks that I specifically want to use my Zed 8 for. I do not trust Nikon to get my unit taken care of in a very timely manner. I had both my D7100s in for service by Nikon in New York; they took care of both units, however, they also reset both D7100s to factory default settings which really annoyed me. What a pain!

That's going to happen anytime you send it for service. Save your setup first. One button press from the Menu takes care of it in a half second or so.

Right! Never pass up a chance for free service. If you decide to sell the camera, the buyer will want evidence that the recall was done.

First, I would hold sending in until your events have been completed. Just make sure you have your strap also attached to the bottom 'tripod' mount as well.
Next, definitely back up your settings.
In my most recent return for the eyelets; Nikon did not reset the settings. In fact, they did not reset when it was sent in for the lens mount issue either.
When I picked up the camera the other day at the Melville location, the service agent told me that resets were not being done for the eyelet issue.
Still back up your settings.

Just use straps into the tripod screw or wrist straps until your jobs are finished. You cant take a risk not having your cameras back in time . That is what I would do as a working pro. Do you belong to NPS ?

BTW, even Nikon in Japan says it should be pronounced Zee not Zed, Cheers

BTW..is it really necessary to correct ones grammar or pronunciation? Especially when you are completely off base.
There are millions of people who pronounce the letter 'Z' as Zed. Not Nikon Japan, and clearly not you.
Cheers

Nikon in Japan is correct, but you have to remember that in England, there is no "Zee." They say, "X, Y, Zed." The English people aren't going to change the name of a letter of the alphabet because Nikon says so.

At least this isn't as bad the Nee-kon vs Neye-kon controversy. (Neye-kon is correct.)

Yes there are millions that are pronouncing it incorrectly, according to Nikon in Japan, who made it and named it Zee. So I side with Nikon would made it and named it, and call it Zee.

But I was more having a jest with you, as most of us, including me, have heritages from different countries that have different pronunciations. I have African, Caribbean, Native American, Portuguese, English and Scottish in my heritage. The English and Scottish part of me would say Zed, LOL.

I administrate a few Worldwide Facebook Photography groups with members from around the world, and I get teased from my Aussie, Canadian, UK and Indian members among others, for calling it Z, not Zed.

I cant be the first that has had the Zee not Zed jest with you. Have a thicker skin.

Cheers and best to you.

Take a break, breath and relax. You will live longer.

If that is the worst anyone has said to you in UHH, you are doing great.

Cheers and best to you.
