Today, remembering Robbie Robertson’s passing playing some of their great Albums starting with the cut “Atlantic City” off the Jericho album. Turned on the big amps, and turned it up LOUD, like Rock ought to be enjoyed. RIP Robbie, Y’all made some great music.

Yes, this is a bummer. Not only was he great in The Band but his solo work was superb as well.
RIP Robbie Robertson.

Vale Robbie Robertson, one of the best songwriters of all time and an awesome picker!

It’s a good thing DVDs are durable. “The Last Waltz” still gets played often in our house. His legacy is immortalized.

Yes, I hate to see him go. The Band was iconic!

I saw Bob Dylan and The Band at the (then) "chrome dome" Charlotte Coliseum in early 1974. Later, The Band played at Davidson, where I was a student. They actually played there twice before I graduated. Here are a couple of images from those concerts...

Wow! Great shots Bill. I’ve seen Dylan several times, but not with The Band - I’m jealous.

After their main concert at Davidson in '76, some of the band members came to the Student Union and played on the small stage in the beer bar. (We could drink at 18 back then in NC.) John McCuen (banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, piano, accordion, vocals...) hung around the next day and played the next night. He even came down to the student radio station and cut a promo for us. He was a perfect solo act on the small stage.

That Charlotte concert was crazy. Bill Graham, the famous promoter from the 1960s, put that show on. He was wandering around the audience before the show, talking to the people backstage on a walkie-talkie and looking nervous. It was his job to be nervous.

The old Charlotte chrome dome on Independence Blvd. was NOT a place you wanted to hear a concert. The acoustics were awful, like being inside of a Jamaican steel drum! But no one cared. We were seeing Dylan and The Band!

The cops all but ignored the copious quantities of pot being smoked in there. They waited until people were leaving to arrest the few sellers they saw.

What an awesome experience and memory! Says a lot about the members, as well. Back in the 60s, I bartended in an Ames, IA bar (while attending ISU) called the RedRam. We had a house band that was okay, at best. One night, this guy gets up from his table and approaches the stage. For the next hour or so, Paul Butterfield kept the place rocking with his harmonica. The band all of a sudden sounded pretty Yours and this are memories that last forever. It’s nice to be at the right place at the right time once in a while.

What an awesome experience and memory! Says a lot ... (show quote)

It's fun to watch young people experience the same music we did. They react much the same way, and wonder why there's not more of the same being written and recorded today!

McEuen was an awesome musician. He could certainly pick that 5 string Deering!
