No one has been able to help you with that yet? I thought someone brought that up and explained that in your previous post. I guess not or you did not read that reply. Sorry, I don't know Canon Menus, so I can not directly help you. I only know some Pentax and Fuji Menus and Cameras.

simplest way is factory reset. Otherwise go to menus, customize buttons ( under the orange colored camera icon ) and then put the buttons back into the proper place.

Then you have to reset EVERYTHING else that you had customized. So a factory reset is NOT a good idea except as a last resort to restore abnormal camera behavior.

I agree. But I somehow get the impression that this may be a camera that was purchased used and may have been significantly customized by the previous owner. It's usually a good idea to reset a camera like that to avoid surprises down the road (or even right out of the gate).

I didn't see that anywhere but in that case it could make sense.

It's best to read the manual but with my Nikon Df back button focus is on by default. By default if you half press the shutter release button it would focus but without pushing the shutter release button I can just pust the AF-on button and it focuses.

"Factory Reset" Is the "simplest way" ??!!?? Well it may seem so cuz the instruction for it is just one step. But if youve even mildly customized your camera then the aftermath is far from simple cuz you hafta redo everything.

The "Newkyular Option" is always the simplest SHORT TERM solution to ANY problem in any domain. But, its short term and short sighted.

There's a whole other related thread from the same OP that taken together with this one suggest pretty strongly that he does not and has not had manuals for his cameras. Of course, it's possible that he has them and doesn't read them, but I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt.

That happens a lot around here, THAT along with a lot of assumption with no evidence.

To actually answer the question, isn’t it just a matter or reassigning the shutter button to engage autofocus?

Got it. Makes sense. Sorry for being snarky.
