I think. They are supposed to be common here, but I don't see them often.
At least this is within their range.

The brightly-colored eyespots are an adaptation to scare away their predators.

Migration is common only among the southern adult population during late spring and summer, when they move towards the northern parts.

These creatures feed on plant matter rich in a bitter-tasting chemical compound called ‘iridoid glycoside’, since predators including wasps, birds, ants, and other small animals prefer consuming caterpillars poor in this compound over those that have a rich concentration of it in their bodies.
