Would like recommendations for a strong or slash proof camera strap for travels.

Peak Design 1 1/2” or 2” depending on camera and lens weight. Peak Design is my day to day preferred strap.

Pacsafe makes excellent theft resistant products. PacSafe camera straps have special theft resistant clasps and a steel cable running through the strap. I use them in high theft areas like Paris. I find them slightly more bulky and less flexible but still comfortable.

I agree on Peak Design. You can select the strength of the strap and they have an excellent system for being able to switch cameras.

I was given a Slide by Peak Design by a very good friend. It holds my D 750 with a 70-200mm f2.8 (4.9 lbs.) quite nicely and it's adjustable for different carrying positions.

I use the Peak Design slide. It does not have wire or cable inside so it could be slashed, it's like a seat belt.

I think that if I were a thief working on stealing someone's camera, I would take a pair of diagonal cutters and take out the lobster claw or whatever is holding said reinforced strap to the camera. It seems realatively easy to grab the camera and cut the swivel, then run.

In the last 30 years or so, my wife and I have traveled to a few foreign lands, and I have never felt the need for a reinforced strap, but stuff does happen. In all the time, the only thing that has been taken from us was when someone boosted my wife's phone on a train in Rome last January.

For the rest, my backup plan is 12 + years of working in a prison. I may not be as fast as I once was, but I still know 14 ways to inflict pain and, God forbid, I can end someone's life with one hand.

From my point of view, a reinforced strap gives a false sense of security but if you must, then by all means but also practice situational awareness and don't travel alone.

PacSafe. They will have a stainless steel wire in the strap that is in no way easily cut through without a bolt cutter. It will be easier to rip the camera eyelet off.

I was going to suggest PacSafe as well, but I couldn't find a camera strap on their site.

Photographer Bart Ros explains in a private Nikon Z8 Facebook group that they were shooting an event in early July with their Nikon Z8 camera, alongside Peak Design’s popular anchors and strap.

β€œThe anchor point on the camera broke. And the body fell. And it does not turn on anymore. Something audible is broken inside the body. But there is no external damage,” writes the photographer.

If you are THAT worried about theft, I wouldn't go.

Look into the UpStrap. I have several and they will not slip off the shoulder.
