A Moth I Presume

This lovely little critter was laying flat on the exterior wall of my shed. I think he thought he was hiding from me. While I think I got some good photos of him I have no idea what he is other than most likely a moth.

Dennis, Nice find and image. A quick difference between a moth and a butterfly is that a moth most often rests with its wings down against its body and a butterfly rest with its wings folded upward.

OK so my orange skipper would be more toward the butterfly group while this one would be more toward a moth, if I am understanding you correctly.
