Ladderback and Gila Woodpeckers

Both of these woodpeckers are found in the Southwest.
As with many woodpeckers, the males have the red patch on the back of the head.
on Ladderbacks, the ladder pattern on the back extends to the head, while on the Gila they stop short of the head.

Beautiful. I have been putting suet out for months. I have not had the first bird come to it. Not even the Blue Jays.

These were at Patons as well. 2 years ago
I haven't had many exciting birds here, and have tons of old photos I have not reviewed yet
