I was making a slideshow for a senior picnic from 2016. I put all the pictures in order, and then I went to download music. No Internet! When I connected later, I recorded the song. Playing it back, I was surprised to hear myself talking. It turns out that I had a web cam connected. I disconnected the camera, and attempted to record it again. No Internet! I was finally able to record it, and I clipped the recording and added it to the slideshow.

I didn't want to cut the song short, so I extended the duration of each slide. Now they both end at the same time. I figure these are old folks looking at pictures from years ago, so giving them nine seconds is fine.

Someday, I'll actually study Movavi Slideshow Maker, but for now, I can get the job done.

Premiere Pro has a "Remix Tool". When applied, it automagically cuts the music track to fit the video track length. It does it with multiple cuts in places where the rhythm and beat are maintained. It avoids chopping off the end.

Amazing, but this isn't a professional product, and I don't need Pro, nor do I want to pay $21 a month for it. As an instructor said on YouTube last night, "Do you want to keep paying indefinitely for a program you might use once a year?"

I think the concensus of the majority is YES that's why the software companies can do it.

I'm limiting myself to free and outright purchase.

Gym memberships were the original gottcha program. Of course, going to the gym, most people would agree is a good thing. So they sign up and start going, until they stop, but still keep on paying because they just might go again or if it is on auto pay, the newest game in town they forget to cancel. I personally try not to sign up for anything that auto renews or is automatically debited from my bank account. There are exceptions to the rule, like Lightroom, which I use on a regular basis. These days when I sign up for something that requires an annual auto-renewal, I remove the credit card I used after signing up. That way when it comes time for it to renew, I can access if I still want it. Monthly ones are more difficult manage, which companies are counting on.

From what I've heard, gym memberships are the hardest to get out of.

I don't pay for it either. I've written on UHH before that Adobe gives me the entire Creative Cloud package because I try to answer their customers' questions on their forums. Log into the Premiere Elements forum and you can see me at work!

Premiere Elements costs $100. With all the great free programs, I think sales is slowing. If my deal ends when there are no more questions to answer I will revert to free video editing programs but will probably continue with the $10/month Lightroom/Photoshop deal. I like it too much and know it too well to give it up.

I agree with you but I think most people think it's fine to pay the subscription. I think later on they will have subcription on cameras. What attracts the consumers is you don't have to pay a large sum at once and always have the latest.

Jerry, recently discovered Davinci Resolve: a very complete video program that you can use to compile a “slideshow" of stills (and even add some audio). It’s free for less than 4K Video (2K HD is great for a slide show), and lots of online tutorial/help.

Jerry, I may have missed it, but cdan you share which operating system you are using--Windows or Mac? If I want to add music to a slide show I am creating in Win 11, I use MS Photo to create a video of still pictures. It allows one to set a separate time for each photo, and I can add music to the photos from the MS library or from any of the free music web sites. I do stay away from anything that might h ave a copyright with it by default or explicitly. --Richard

Just as a side note on single purchase or monthly payments, Photopia, which replaces ProShow, allows you to purchase a 12 month subscription but then “pause” it for months you don’t intend to use it. Turn it back on when you need it and update it to current level if there have been updates and pause it again when done. Must be done on full month increments but I like this approach and it’s an excellent tool.

Yes, DaVinci is great. I'm just starting to use it.
