...Ego
...Power
and
...money

EGO - "Look what I can do! Look what I have done!"
(Convinced the world that climate is changing because we are on the earth; that the temperature is getting warmer - OF COURSE it is - has been since the last ice age - where did all the ice go?)
POWER - "Just look at how many people are doing what I have told them to do! See how the world has been and is being upset - for no good reason."
MONEY - "Oh my, my pockets are lined and I've got more coming because sooooo many are doing what I have told and convinced them to do!

In Baltimore, several hot days have not broken records set some years ago. Wonder if it isn't the same elsewhere!

Power and money is still with the oil companies, and will be for decades to come. If we're both still alive in 25 years, let's discuss whether willful ignorance of scientific facts* worked out happily for Mother Earth and her remaining inhabitants.

*hint: the global effects of rising temperatures are so much more complicated than you suggest.

Any comparison to the Ice Age is ridiculous, given the impact of 8 billion people, their food and water and shelter needs, their automobiles, toys and all the rest. Educate yourself!

Oh, sorry. I thought by the tone of the opening post, we were having a serious discussion. But if musing about dinosaur farts is what tickles your fancy, I'll move on to the jokes of the day

The reason 'Power and Money' is still with the oil companies is because they are supplying what the 8 billion people in the world are demanding. Without oil, the majority of those 8 billion people would be dying from famine.

Are they demanding because they feel oil (which is used by only 40% of the world, btw, with most of the rest being natural gas or coal) is superior in some way, or because the alternatives are limited or non-existent?

I've come to the sad conclusion that there will be no significant attempt to prevent what we might still be able to prevent. Habit, greed, ignorance (willful or not), denial...all will continue until the only course is reaction.

And we know that widespread famine begins with the poorest of the poor.

Perhaps I over-generalized. When I think of oil companies, I generally include all hydrocarbon producers and most are related.

Thanks. Still, the question remains as to availability of alternatives. Those with power and money don't have much incentive to change.
