Have a problem I just cannot seem to correct. I want to use a Sony ECM XYST1M Shotgun microphone on a Vello V rig along with mounting a Feelworld Monitor on a leg of the V rig. The Sony shotgun microphone will be mounted on the center of the V rig. The camera along with the other equipment is going to be mounted on a tripod which I am going to use to video a wedding for a friend of mine.
Have any of the members used a V rig to hold the Monitor on one leg and the microphone on the other two legs? Sony tells me that the microphone has to be mounted on the hot shoe to work and when I have used the microphone cable and plugged it into the camera, I am receiving sound, but I do not know if it is coming from the on-camera microphones or from the Sony microphone which I have plugged into the camera.
How do I use this microphone mounted on the V rig to receive all the sound and not get the sound from the cameras microphone? I know that there are Rode microphones that Ican mount on the V rig and they will work but I do not want to invest in another microphone unless I really have to. This is a new microphone and this is going to be the first time I am going to use it. I would really like your inputs and if you use a microphone on a V rig and a monitor while filming videos.
After a few tries I found that the Sony Microphone does not want to allow me to attach it to the V rig. I do not want to purchase another microphone. What I need to purchase are mounts that will lock on to the tripod legs and will let me use the V rig or just place the monitor on the tripod leg. Does anyone know where I can purchase those mounts and what they are called?
Thank you for your help.
If you tap lightly on the external microphone when it's not on the hotshoe and cable is connected, do you hear the tap loudly on the camera/recording? If you do then it's working, if not then it is using the camera's microphone, tap that too.
Just a guess,
The external hot-shoe microphone probably needs power from the hot shoe.
It is a condenser microphone. Those need power.
The cable is a stereo mini-phone jack, those don't have power, just audio.
