In San Francisco Chinatown, I came across these
Cool set TopCat. I haven't been to China Town in 30+ years but you would never have found anything like what you recorded in your first shot. Looks like there is no pride left there any more either.
Thank you. Yes, things have changed. All over SF, not just Chinatown.
I like Chinatown because it is a vibrant community, but things have changed. Covid has changed it. There has been a lot of violence against the older residents. The higher prices are hurting a lot of people. It is not the same.
But it is the same all over SF, and Oakland. Crime is up. Police can't do anything. Gun battles on the highways and innocent people are getting killed. On their way home from work. Things have changed, but then it probably has changed everywhere. In Oakland, the cops advise people to put bars on their doors because of the break-ins.
It is not how it used to be.

Lots of nice color in those images. The one and only time I was in SF's Chinatown was in December 1974 (or was it '73? Too long ago). It was a bit scary even then. Much older than "new Chinatown" in LA. "Old Chinatown" in LA was moved during the 1930's for Union Station. I am rather familiar with LA's Chinatown. I used to go there a few times per year for many years from 1977 until 2015.

Wow. Chinatown has certainly degenerated since I was last there.
Nice colorful compositions. A fine set.

A lot of the older residents are very concerned about the crime and how they are being targeted. But that is happening all over the bay area. Women are being targeted in Oakland, by teenagers. Crime in the big cities is getting pretty bad.
Chinatown has always been different, but it has also changed. Like North Beach, the new generation has moved out. North Beach used to be Italian, but the new generation has moved out, and the people that live there have changed. I guess that is symbolic of America now. And nothing stays the same, and everything changes.

It has. All the cities have changed, I think maybe here more than others. But it is still a nice place. The people are great. The younger ones have moved out like they always do.

Been there a few times back in the 70's but never saw trash like that shown in your first photo.
