I had recently posted about the spotted lanternflies in New Jersey from my trip there last summer. Here are more pictures from that trip.
While the wife and family were enjoying the beach, I took off to explore parks near the coast. To each their own!

There were lots of these Atlantic Marsh Fiddler Crabs at a marine estuary (
Uca pugnax). They would all run away from me when I approached, so I had to wait in hiding. When they crept back to their spots I was able to dive on this one for pictures. It’s the males that have the enlarged claw, and they use it to wave at females in order to attract them. They also use the claw to arm wrestle other males.

Here is a Yellow-legged Mud Dauber Wasp (
Sceliphron caementarium) which was collecting mud for its nest. I had to hang head down on a steep river bank and hold the camera way out to get close pictures. When she completes the nest she will stock it with paralyzed spiders.

And I close with the strange Spined Micrathena Spider (

Thanks for looking!
Wow, now that is close up and personal!
Another nice selection. When in Spain a Mud Dauber built a nest in a light shade. It would come and go through the lounge while we sat there - better than the TV. I didn't know about the spider side of things.
Thank you Mark for an incredible assortment of photos you have posted. Well done.
