Hi Guys,
I've had a try at fixing this photo but not having much luck..can anyone have a go at it for me..this is a copy before my feeble efforts...
The photo has obviously faded over the years but what's caused the main problem is that for whatever reason, it's stuck to the glass from the frame it's in.
I had to scan it through the glass.
The main areas of concern are the centre and the left side.
Cheers,
Ron.
That's a tough one. Don't suppose you have the negative tucked away somewhere in the attic or basement? I'm thnking someone with more skills than me could select out the right side of the face and do some cloning of the facial colors. Taking the brightness down on the boy is doable but the parts that are blown out aren't going to be recoverable.
edit - I'm just spitballing here but it may just be possible to soak it in water for a few hours or even a day or two and maybe, just maybe it will release from the glass. Don't do it on my word. This is just thinking out loud. Run by some of the photo restoration experts here on UHH.
Pre-digital photos were processed and developed in wet chemical solutions. The paper and the emulsion coating on the paper were designed to be dipped in chemical developer and washed clean with water once the image was developed. With any luck you may be able to get it to release from the glass with no harm done to the paper or the emulsion.

That's a tough one. Don't suppose you have the neg... (

Sadly no, if I had the neg I could just get a new print.
I can't believe why I don't have a copy of the pic somewhere, I even found the scans of the day it was taken but it's the only one missing.
I've just had it soaking for 30 minutes but it didn't help at all.
I ended up having to scrape it off with a scalpel..took me about an hour to clean the glass.
Here is my awful attempt, I sort of fixed some of it by cloning...
I might have to try and do more cloning on the boys arm as half of it has a bit of colour in it, ditto for the man's arm..
