First Sign Of Fall?

Yesterday marked the 19th day in a row of 110°+ temperatures here in AZ. It was a relatively balmy 117° compared to Wednesday's 119°. Luckily, I was in CT for the first two weeks of this run and missed a good part of the hot weather. While there I found this little glimmer of promised cooler weather. For those of us stuck in the heat, stay cool, hope is on the way.

This leaf has a disease. It is not and indication of cooler autumnal weather.

Ever since moving to the Piedmont Triad of NC, nine years ago, the fall of leaves has started right after the first day of SUMMER. I had do use a grass catcher on my mower yesterday, because the trees in my heavily wooded back yard have dropped lots of leaves. This morning, you can barely tell I mowed. Highs are in the low 90s F.

Yep. Sounds almost cool, right? Try working outside in 85% humidity at 90°F + ...You'll soon discover where the term, "slow Southerners" came from. Your body can't sweat fast enough to cool down. Instead of evaporative cooling, you get drenched in warm, sticky sweat.

My daughter lives in Tucson, AZ. It's been nasty hot there for weeks. She has to remember to drink more water than usual, because dry heat creeps up on you. Still, she says the humidity of Charlotte was worse.

Winter is on its way. Will have to dust off the snowblower in about 4-5 months.
