I keep saying the same thing with every post, so I'm sure you know what I'm asking you to do by now. Blah. Blah. Blah. "Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia 1" before you check out this one.
Our hotel, the Hilton of Ulaanbaatar. Actually it was quite comfortable enough, with a friendly, accomodating staff.
The crowded lobby of the Bishrelt Plaza Hotel.
Some Mongolian hero from WWII. Note the Soviet style uniform, and the Cyrillic writing on the building in the background.
The State Opera House built, of course, by the Soviets.
The State Opera and Ballet Academic Theatre. Also Soviet built.
Parliament was built by the Mongolians themselves. As you can see, it's much more graceful in appearance than the heavy, stolid Soviet buildings above. If you look closely at its main entrance, you can just about see Genghis.
There he is. Genghis in all his glory. There were no contemporaneous likenesses of him, so no one knows what he really looked like. He's pretty much seen everywhere in the country in this majestic pose.
One of Genghis' soldiers. To this day, even the city folk in Mongolia are great horsemen/women. They all learn to ride just about when they learn to walk.
A head on view of Parliament with the above statue. Ghengis is out of view, just behind, right up the front steps of the building ... much like Abe in the Lincoln Memorial.
Beautiful set. Thanks for the tour
You continue to do good tours, Mel.
