I can't imagine running 198 MPH in an open car like this. That's the speed it was clocked at in 1967 running at the Daytona National track. The buffeting had to be tremendous.

It would be fun though! Nice shots Tom.

Well, the good news, since you're here, is that you survived. What HP did it take to pull that off?

1971. 409 probably making over 400hp. Tall geared for road racing. Not legally licensed for the street in California.

That's a ligitimate situation to ponder. EV cars ( the high-end stuff ) are impressive in aceleration because they produce their torque ratings almost immediately whereas gas engines lag behind in reaching their maximum torque. Running flat out for top speed is a differnt issue. Right now, the top speed for street cars is somwhere around 270 - 290 MPH in a Bugatti that producing around 1700 HP. There's a number of folks taking a shot at the top speed. It's far from a static field of contenders. Top speed comes from the aplication of power, gearing, and aerodynamics of the vehicle. I'm not sure that, in these cases, it matters whether the power comes from ev motors or gas engines. some one more knowledgeable than I am about these matters may want to chime in.

Thanks for the education.

A quick question, Jack. Did the grandfather show up later and total the kid?

I don't know. I left for the Army shortly after graduation. My guess would be he got him another one.

Nice shots.
It's a beautiful car. There is something about those cars from the 60's with their more rounded lights and fenders. Like this one, the older Ferari's and my all time favorite the Jaguar XKE. IMO they are way more attractive than the new Vettes' and Ferari's and Porches with their sharp angular lines.

I thought you were talking about a snake! I had some experience with a very fast cobra one time. It didn't look like that, though! But I'm thinking it was MUCH faster!!
Nice photo of a beautiful car.
