Baby Grasshopper, Harvester and Insect Eggs?

Recently I took these photos in my yard and also next to the Snake River.

Can anyone identify the, what I think, are insect eggs of some type? They are smaller than 1/4 inch and seem to be connected in a chain like manner or a pearl necklace.

The eggs are galls, which are tumorous growths on plants. Galls can be caused by an insect living inside them, or by fungi or viruses. They are pretty weird. You can crack one open to see what is inside, if anything. If I can get an ID on the plant, then that should lead us to the culprit.

I will see what I can do when I get back to that area. Thanks for your comments.

Back again. I had a vague hunch that the leaves looked willow-ish, and on that hope I looked up "galls on willow" and found this: https://bugguide.net/node/view/482518/bgimage , and the insect: https://bugguide.net/node/view/449867/bgimage.

So it looks like the galls from the willow gall sawfly. If you cut one open, I suppose you will find a small larva.

It's a strange thing, but things that make plants grow galls do so to get lots of protective and nutritive tissue to surround them. I don't know how insects or viruses or whatever induce this tumor-like growth, but I expect people have looked into it. Different galls have very distinct and often weird shapes, and there is often a kind of architecture of interior tissue that they make the plant make. Galls are weird things.

OMG!!! Mark you and others of our resident experts are incredible not only for knowing this stuff OR being able to know where to find it but also for your desire to share the information. That knowledge is incredible to me and others as well I suspect.

I may try to get over there again today to fish and/or take some photographs. I will check the area where I found the galls and see what is going on. Thank you.
