Here in California, the Common Murr is also known as the flying Penguin due to the way it walks on the ground. They are born and raised on cliff edges for the first 4-6 weeks and then the parents take them to sea for a few weeks before they are fully fledged.
A couple of days ago I found what I believe was an exhausted juvenile sleeping on the beach and after a few minutes of watching, it woke up and stretched prior to going back to sleep. No fear of my presence, as I thought the bird may be ill.

Cool, they do sort of look like Penguins. I don't think I have seen those South around Pismo Beach where I live. We have plenty of cliffs all along SLO County, CA.
