More from my archives.
Reviewing my photo archives I found these that I would like to share with you. The images were made with Nikon cameras and lenses although the sunset over the Everglades was shot with an Olympus camera along with the lighthouse, an ornament, in Islamorada.
We have been having record hot temperatures in Miami and under those conditions I have stayed home in AC and drinking plenty of fluids. Photography again when we have cooler temperatures.
A couple of days ago, reviewing the technique of bracketing I ventured out in the early morning hours before sunrise. It was not cool but it was tolerable and I stayed around my neighborhood. Upon returning home I had to hit the shower to remove sweat and to refresh my body from the heat.
Today will be another miserable day with a heat index of around 108 and warnings from the National Weather Service due to the high temperatures and excessive ultraviolet light. As far as I can say we never had a month of July as hot as this one.
I hope you enjoy looking at them.
1- A fainting rainbow, Lauderdale by the Sea.
2- Sunset over the lake, Maine.
3- Sunset, Everglades National Park.
4- Town of Valldemossa, Mallorca, Spain.
5- Old lighthouse, Islamorada, Florida Keys.
Living in Florida, I consider the color pictures as just another series of sunsets but I am impressed with the two b&w images: great detail and contrast!
Thank you Manglesphoto for stopping by. Julian, yes, they are another series of sunset, a favorite subject of mine. In regard to the b& white images those are conversions from original color. While the contrast was low when I made the Valldemossa picture it was near midday when I shot the lighthouse.
As I am sure you know, it is not the best light to be photographing. I had to lower contrast in post but between you and me, I am not still entirely happy with it. The East is toward the left side of the image and I wonder if the lighthouse will be illuminated in the evening making it perhaps more interesting for photography. I will have to find out when the weather cools again. The building you see to the left is a restaurant. There was a previous one toward the right near the highway, pretty rustic where the lighthouse was originally located.
Thank you for commenting.

Very nice indeed...perfect shots!!!!!!!
I really like your work here. The two B&W shots are great. The two sunsets are equally good but i have one suggestion about them. Raise the bottom margin by cropping to reduce a lot of the dead space....it accentuates the impact of the sunset.
Excellent archives, William.

Black mamba, you are talking about cropping and I don't really know how good a photograph is considering esthetics or the actual subject. Let me explain this better, if I present a shot saying that it is a sunset over the Everglades I believe in some ways I should represent at least as part of the image something that will tell the viewer that it is the Everglades, notice that practically only a third of the image (buttom) tells the viewer about the vegetation in the Everglades. It is not the best representation but it was the best I could do at the time.
If I remove more from the bottom of the sunset with the boat I do not know if indeed I will convey what I wanted to communicate. Do something for me, modify the images to your taste and post them so we can see the difference. Cropping of unnecessary objects or subjects could be very subjective.
Thank you all for stopping by and thank you black mamba for you suggestions.
