Recently a group of Civil War re-enactors gathered in Concrord, Massachusetts to honor George Washington Dugan of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment killed in battle at Fort Wagner in South Carolina in July, 1863. A gravestone was erected to his memory.
Almost two years into the Civil War an advertisement appeared in the Boston Journal recruiting "Good men of African descent" to join the newly formed 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first black regiment in the Civil War. Four days after the advertisement was published 44-year-old farmer and widower, George Washington Dugan, traveled to the 54th recruiting station and enlisted. The regiment was under the command of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. The exploits of the 54th were depicted in the motion picture "Glory" in 1989. The film starred Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick in the lead roles.

Thanks for the three thumbs Manglesphoto.
These are some nice images. I would not be surprised if you had images of the Shaw monument in Boston.

Thank you RodeoMan. Somewhere in my archives I do have a couple of shots. The memorial is located across from the State House in Boston.
Great monochrome and sepia work Stan. Well done.
