Another from the morning's wander

I posted a monochrome photo from my morning walk at the lake a few days ago (here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-779427-1.html). As I walked around the little lake, the sun came out for just a few minutes before being occluded by the clouds. I happened to be rounding the last of the trees on the west side at the time, so I saw this. The view reminded me of Bierstadt's paintings.

Thanks, Mike! Bountiful Lake is smaller, but worth a visit if you don’t have time for Bear River or Farmington refuges. It’s a little closer to home for you. :-)
During the late fall through early spring there’s also an entrance to the south end of Farmington Waterfowl Management Area.

Looks like your focus was short. The grass is in focus while the sky is not.

I think what you’re seeing is a combination of two things: noise in the sky that isn’t apparent in the grass because the grass has more detail, and softness in the clouds because most clouds don’t have crisp edges anyway, especially rain clouds. This is a cell phone shot, so the effective depth of field is very large.
