Another critter hanging around my potatoes. It would seem to be some type of spider.

Would the fly be a hover fly.

Thank you tinusbum for the identification. I will TRY to remember for the next time. I appreciate you and others who are willing to help out others who like to photograph these things but can't recall their names. I usually just go by Fred and Ethel but know that may not be the correct name.

Thank you becheary. That was my first guess too but I also saw a Daddy Long Legs this morning in my bathroom but he had a very sort body attached to the legs. This body is longer and much fatter with ribs going across it.

Thanks for your well meaning stab at it.

It is indeed a harvestman and they are quite interesting. One of their traits is to sacrifice a leg if it is grabbed by a predator. Unfortunately, they don't grow a new one although they keep going about their business. Their eyes are uniquely different from the spiders which have six or eight.

The second find is a long-legged fly. - Enjoy your time in the field and keep sharing your finds.

Thank you sippy. I do plan to continue sharing what I find because these things are interesting especially to someone like me who has never paid any attention to them. I did know the harvestman was not a real spider and definitely not a daddy long legs type of spider. I just didn't know the name and definitely did not know they would sacrifice a leg and keep going. Interesting.

Thank you Sylvia. Yes it does which is what made me initially think it was a type of daddy long legs spider. Instead, it is a Harvester and not a spider at all. Yesterday I got some better photographs of either it or a close relative I hope to post this morning. Lots of interesting critters wandering through my potatoes.
