I have a Nikon D80 and have been wanting a D7000. But, cumstances dictate I can't afford it in the forseable future.

I am interested in Panasonic FZ200, which is 28-600mm. With a constant f/2.8 aperture, with Lieca lens. Has anyone had any experience with this camera? The main drawbacks that I see are no redeye reduction, flash is very expensive and is only 12 megapixel. Noise may be a problem above ISO 800.

I do not intend to get rid of D80, it has less than 18,000 shots on it. I would use it where flash was required. Yes, I would prefer a D7000, but can't swing it.
Any & all comments welcome.

Hello. I own a Panasonic FZ35 and love it. It took acceptable photos and the fixed lens allowed me to bring it into concerts where other cameras couldn't go without credentials. The FZ2000 is Panasonic's flagship model and is the highest rated camera in the category (right now). With that said, I think it will depend on how you want to use it. Your D80 is a fantastic camera. I would either wait or pass all together on the D7000. When I was in the market for a new camera last year I narrowed my final three down to the Nikon D7000, the Canon 7D and the Sony a77. I picked the Sony for several reasons (too many to go into here). However the icing on the cake for me was the compatibility with the Minolta legacy AF lenses which are fantastic. Please, don't peg me for a Sony fan boy. ....I love all cameras.

I agree with the others here, wait until you can afford the next camera. Bridge cameras are nice (I currently own a Canon SX40) but It will not replace my DSLR. The long zoom is very tempting but the image quality is sacrificed. The lens on the Panasonic is great, probably too good for the sensor.

You need to seriously consider where you want to go with your photography before you shell out your hard earned money on another camera. The camera you currently have is a decent camera and can take great photos.

You can pick up a refurb D7000 at Cameta for under $800 now.

Mine is on its way!

Constant f2.8 seems like it could be a DOF problem...although I know small sensor cameras aren't as sensitive.

My wife gets my D5100 when the D7000 arrives so her P500 is going on the block. One nice thing about it is that it uses all the Nikon terminology and even many of the same controls as the D5100/7000. I bought it refurb for her about six months ago. It is in new condition. PM me if interested.

How would Constant f2.8 seems like it could be a DOF problem on the Panasonic FZ35? That is maximum apertures, it stops down.

Don't get something you do not really want. Wait until you can afford the D-7000. Love mine.

You're looking at $1000 versus $600 to not get the premium camera of your dreams and accept a lesser alternative. I'd wait.

It arrived!

I am waiting for the battery to charge so I can test it. It appears to be in new condition, as was the other refurb unit we bought. One of the first tests I will do on it is to determine the shutter actuations.

I have to say that as I learn more about it I have to admit that I find the features it provides over the D5100 of minimal value. None of them come close to the utility of the articulated screen on the D5100. The D5100 has exactly the same sensor and actually takes better video than the D7000. It is lighter, also.

Unless there is some specific feature of the D7000 you really need (e.g. the in-camera focus drive because you already have a bunch of lenses that need it) I suggest looking real hard at the D5100. You can get it new now for under $500.
