Spectacled Eider pair flyby

This pair flew by, the female following the male. From what I understand, the males only come onto the tundra to breed, leaving the female to hatch and rear the young while the male goes ocean bound to hang with his bud for the rest of the year. Poor girls, they have to do all the work.

Good set! I am a little puzzled. Male birds are usually more colorful than females but this does not seem to be the case with Eiders?
