Samy's got it shipped on a pallet to their warehouse.
The word fragile is an invitation for the shippers to break whatever is in the box.

Not everyone has the luxury of time to waste driving half way across the country to get a camera fixed.
Ps, your Z9 was shipped in a box to the store or directly to you. Think of that.
It's a couple hour drive for him.

How do you think Sammy's got the camera?
On a pallet from the Harbor?

if not AI the just plain I.

I'd put the camera in a plastic bag just to protect it from the 'crumbs' of the packing foam bits that fill the shipping box. Damage from those seems more likely than damage from rain or other water.

I agree 100%. Put the camera in a sealed gallon baggie then use whater packing you have had sucess with

My Z9 was recalled right from the get go. They had the same instructions. Fortunately I live 1 hour away from the L.A. Service Center (Only West Coast Nikon repair shop). No way was I putting it in a box even with aa foot of bubble wrap around it. I drove to and from the Service Center to drop off and pick up. They also did a full clean on the camera at no charge. Camera has been perfect ever since. Even if the repair shop was in another state I would still hand deliver. But that's me.

I have had several cameras damaged - by water. Several times my camera bag {little padding} has rolled off a seat; several times my cameras fell off when my cat thought my lap was her exclusive property. I’m sorry your Nikon cameras are so fragile; I ‘ve stopped worrying about shock damage to my Pentax cameras - they can take it.

The general online opinion is that if lenses attach and disconnect with no problem, it's not necessary to send it to Nikon. On the other hand, if Nikon says you should send it, you should think about resale. Some buyers like to know if all the recalls have been done.

The plastic bag is to protect from moisture. Mine was heavily bubble wrapped and sealed in a sturdy cardboard box. I think you misread/interpreted Nikon’s instructions.

Exactly, wrap body tight in plastic bag, maybe freezer bag. Then you pack it with the appropriate stuff in a sturdy box. This is exactly how Nikon will send it back.

The “general online opinion …..” isn’t worth diddlysquat. I’m an NPS member who received his Z8 literally 2 days before the recall was announced and mine was among those affected. I had no issues attaching my lenses to the body so I briefly wondered about whether or not I should send it in. Contacted NPS and was told to send it in.

In retrospect, it would have been just plain stupid not to send it in. Inconvenient yes, but I would never make an important equipment decision based upon “general opinion” on an internet site. It’s my experience that such opinions are often just flat out wrong! Too many people on UHH (and all of the other sites) offer opinions on matters where they have little or no knowledge. Too many people lurking on websites feel the need to impress the others with their depth of knowledge in ALL areas of photography. There are people posting on websites like ours with 80,000 posts.

and you get a free cleaning so you can always wait a bit and send it in later.
