So there is this to maybe worry about (but probably not right away). Then there are the numerous asteroids that cross earth's orbit - and many more that have not been found yet. We could have another pandemic with something really lethal ... And oh yes, global warming.

It is more likely that human life on earth will end in a whimper rather than in an instant event. I believe the largest threat to our life on earth is that we will drown in our own sewage of polluted land and water. The planet will become one large garbage and trash pile. All one need to do is look at the living conditions of some of the third-world countries where the people live among the trash that they pick through looking for any bit of food.

Plants are the planet's lungs that scrub pollutants from the air and we are destroying them at an alarming rate. Removing pollutants from our waters is far more complex and the lives within the water are dependent on keeping them clean. When they die...we will be soon to follow.

I cannot divine the future, but only guess at it based on some evidence (with error bars, of course). Barring a catastrophe like an asteroid, we will have to hit peak population (in maybe a century? Two centuries?), and begin a decline as resources become less available and weather becomes more extreme. The social and political turmoil at that time is not one I'd ever want to see. I don't see an extinction event for us though from those causes.
Life on earth of course will eventually have end in something like a billion years since our sun will be entering a phase where it begins to heat up more and expand as part of the normal cycle of stars. The oceans will evaporate, and the atmosphere will be steadily stripped down from increased solar wind. Maybe microbes will hang on for much longer, deep in the soil and rock. But eventually they too will cook as the sun continues to swell.

So... any good movies lately?

And today some of us are concerned about Global Warming from the use of Fossal fuels. That is a bunch of BS! I'm convinced that one good active volcano does more to affect the global temperature than all of the autos in the world. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!!
