Another relatively common bird in the ponds on the summer tundra. I say. "summer" but the temperatures are typically in the 30's and 40's. So should you choose to take the trip, make sure you have warm and waterproof clothing. I choose this crop to keep the "tundra" colors in the image, but considering how sharp the image is, I could do a much tighter crop. Sometimes I like the "environmental" shot, and sometimes I like more of the subject. What do you think, higher crop here?

Nice shot but I would crop out the top where the tundra is- doesn't add to the image-IMO

Appreciate all of your comments Mike. It was a great trip and saw some lovely birds. All of the images I am sharing were taken with the A1 and 600mm with the 1.4x converter for the most part on a tripod with. a gimbal head. I like to shoot at 1/4000 to 1/5000 to be ready for action should it occur. I am not quick enough to change shutter speeds necessary catch that eventual action when it occurs, much less the ISO. There are custom setups you can on the A1 that you can customize for instance action and perched birds. I mean to try doing that. This shot was taken at 1/5000 at iso 3200. Needless to say, I continue to be impressed with Sony. BUT, I MUST SAY, I tried an Olympus om1 with the Olympus 300mm (equivalent 600 full frame). Tons of fun and sooooo light comparatively.

I appreciate the detailed reply, Frank. It is very easy to set up the high shutter speed button for quick work. I keyed it to my record button, easy to reach quickly.
