When we were all yacking about these things, I could not find the files I wanted. I found them and and here they are. I think the car is very attractive.
Look at the size of that steering wheel in the last shot. You could have steered the Titanic away from the iceberg with that thing.
Wow what a car and you captured its beauty perfectly. Did you notice that the rear bodywork looks a lot like a Corvair?
A lot of concept cars, I was disappointed to learn, didn't even have engines or transmissions because they were not intended to be driven. If it did have an engine it probably was a 265, could you imagine that car with a 409 or a 427? I suppose with American car manufacturers still using worm drive steering without power assist rather than rack and pinion like most European cars the big steering wheel was necessary to get enough leverage to turn that monster.

It looks like a cross of a Corvette and a Corvair. Do you know if it was rear-engine, like the Corvair? If it was, you'd need a steering wheel that size to deal with the oversteer. Had a 62 and you really needed to watch out on cornering.

Looks a lot like the earliest Corvette, Nomad, Corvair, or XP 700. A combination of all of those. There always seem to be Concept Cars or Prototypes that never make it to production. Or the name gets used but for a very different product. There was a very different looking Chevy Biscayne years later. Kind of like a scaled down Impala. This 1955 Biscayne (XP-37) was front engined and that was 265 CID. I looked up some articles about it. One article that I found the most useful is

Before power steering those large steering wheels were cool, Tom!

Thanks, Jack. My first car was a '55 Chevy 4 door sedan. Mom's hand-me-down when she got a '57. I swear I don't remember that thing having such a large steering wheel.

It's like I told Jack. I had a '55 Chevy ( and a '57 later on...both my mom's hand-me-downs ) and I just don't remember those steering wheels being so large. But, obviously, they were. I do remember putting this knob gizmo on the wheel so you could turn it with one hand more easily.

Yea, these concept cars often gave a peek at some body features ( or mechanicals ) that would later show up in production cars.
Thanks for the visit.

They were called a suicide knob. In the days of bench front seats and no seat belts they allowed you to steer the car with your left hand while your right arm was around your girl friend who was snuggled up against you. Ah the good old days
Makes one wonder why a beautiful concept car like this was not put into production.
