Nice, my favorite Genus of California Native Flowers, Salvia. Which Salvia did you photograph, don't recognize it at that scale!

Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa sp.), not regular Honey Bee, Apis mellifera. Native?

I guess I should strive for a funny to me anyway photo of a Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) on a Black Sage Flower (Salvia mellifera).

I used my PlantNet app and came up with either Salvia patens Cav./Salvia guaranitica/Salvia farimacea, another better view for you

Good stuff! You are also documenting here how carpenter bees do nectar robbing. This is where they pierce the base of the flower to get nectar w/o picking up and delivering pollen. Our carpenter bee is a different species, but they do exactly the same thing.

You certainly have a lot of nectar robbers on this type of flower. Fine detail in each shot!
