Sometimes it’s good to change things up a little

I have changed the way I do my bird and nature photography for the most part this year and instead of walking so much I carry a camp stool around with me and tend to find locations to just sit and let Mother Nature unfold around me. I had a very unique opportunity on June 25, 2023 at Yarmouth Natural Heritsge area. I heard a Woodpecker and wasn’t sure what it was so I used Merlin and it said it was a Redheaded Woodpecker which I had not seen this year so the search was on! I never did lay eyes or the camera on the bird in question but it led me to the greatest encounter I have ever had with any bird to date. While walking down the trail I sat down on my stool took up the binoculars and started searching, suddenly in a bush not ten feet away up pops a small beautiful bird and it starts to chatter at me, then it would stop and tilt its head from side to side then back to chattering. So being polite I started talking back to it when suddenly a second one turns up within arms reach of me just staring at me. This encounter went on for over 30 minutes until I had enough sitting in the sun and got up to leave at which point one of the two landed on the brim of my Tilley hat, chattered for a second and was off. It was one of those encounters you will never forget! Oh yes the birds were Yellow-throated Vireos but I also had a Common Yellowthroat and a pair of Eastern Towhee come in close while sitting there.

Other than the number of ticks that I came home with it was a fantastic experience, if you think you have sprayed on enough repellent spray more!
